Be easy on yourself. One can only be so self-aware, particularly in the moment. Realize a pattern, give it a gentle nod, make the subtle internal adjustment and carry on. Others will see the change in your actions. There's no need to announce it every time. (haha, except in the blog)
Are we all a little afraid of our own minds, a little doubtful of our actions?
"By following a path that is sometimes accused of being over-intellectual, structuralism recovers and brings up to awareness deeper truths that are already latent in the body itself."- Claude Levi-Strauss
Doubt as an action is controllable; as emotion, not so much. But what is it?
- A breeding ground for regret, perhaps also for lessons.
- A chance to look at a moment in frozen history and turn it over in our hands, looking at all the little nooks and crannies that may not have been visible as we passed through it.
- Where did these come from?
- What do they do?
- Do I ever want to see them again in following moments and choices?
I can't wipe them out here but I can prevent in the future. Look at the roots, look at the motivations, look at the little urges that create this kind of creature of choice. Those urges come from a different part of the brain- the right and swirl round to the left, so that if you've made a decision logically, they can still take over your hands. Adjust on the other side. Experience a paradigm shift, scoot your chair so it's facing a slightly different direction. Take a deep breath.
- An opportunity to forgive ourselves and laugh at how goofy we can be. Then to admit, with these new lessons in hand, that we'd do it just the same, given another opportunity.
