My friend Tim gave a great response to my recent insomnia (all his blog responses have been great) and a good suggestion for recovery. So funny that he mentioned High Fidelity- if anyone wanted to meet Edward, I would tell them to watch that film. I am not free to do it until Sunday night, but I haven't given myself this kind of wonderfulness in a long time. Wow! Slept last night, like someone had pulled me inside the mattress. I can't wait for Sunday...
I recommend this: A "be good to yourself" night:
(1) Get a bottle of good wine OR some hot tea OR some hot cocoa.
(2) Make yourself a nice hot bath and loll in it with some nice jazz
playing and possibly a good book (have the wine/tea/cocoa
handy too). NO stress. No schoolwork. No guilt.
(3) After a while, when you *just* start to get pruney, order a pizza
(or whatever you feel is comfort food that can be delivered to YOU).
(4) Get out when the water starts to get lukewarm and it's time for
the food to arrive, throw on a nice comfy bathrobe or your fav
lounging around clothes. And a blanket and pillow.
(5) Get your comfort food and drink of choice nearby you and curl up
in a warm spot and watch a good movie in a dark room... preferably
a movie you love and can watch a thousand times (or, hey,
High Fidelity, or hey, The Science of Sleep, another great movie)....
after a while, you will get drowsy. Does not matter whether you
finish the movie or not... but DO NOT go online. DO NOT think
about relationship shite (too much, maybe a little if you are
relating to your movie/book)
(6) Get up and drift off to bed with your book, that toasty, after a
bath feeling, and full tummy. Switch to a glass of milk if you have
any. DO NOT clean up after yourself. Leave all plates, glasses, pizza,
ect 'till tomorrow.
(7) When comfy in bed, read by bedside light until the book is on your
chin. Sleep will come effortlessly. Good dreams will follow. Sleep
late if you can. Eat cold pizza in the morning. Mmmmmmmmm.
Brilliant 'ol Timmy Boy. Thanks!
